Mike Matas "A next generation digital book"

This video shows how fast our technology is moving and that things have become so much more interactive without even leaving your home. He uses a lot of inflection in his tone on what is good and being proud of his work. He presents the idea through showing. He doesn't just tell the people what it can do he shows them making sure to give them the full idea of what its capacities are. It is a digital book that can do so many things. It is on an iPad and you can watch videos, interactively look at pictures, give examples of the media, and scroll through the whole book. This matters to the world because it can change the way we learn and have students become more interactive with the changing movements of the world

What I take away from this is that a small idea can really grow into something that can help others worldwide. He also teaches that today's technology of fast moving information can help people, provide opinions, or just waist time. He also talks about communal and civil value, communal is made by the people and enjoyed by the people but civil is made by the people and used by the community. His presentation was confusing for me personally. One of his points was that preschool parents will choose to pick up their kids late if they are paying for it. I was very confused on how this point was related to the main topic of real value.But I do understand how he says that we have things that make us laugh and give us joy but they don't affect anyone in a major way. We have things like the website to talk about Kenya that has real value that can help others and spread around the world. His main point and idea was cognitive surplus or how our brains interact on the Internet. What has affected me personally is that when we are online editing things or adding pictures we are creating a whole other world that can help lead us into the future.

I honestly don't think  that his speaking style is very good, I don't remember much of what he said because it wasn't powerful or meaningful, it doesn't hit me over the head with an idea that can really make me think. He needs to have more feeling and show how passionate about this idea he is.

His main presentation style is through a digital presentation, he doesn't read the screen but he has pictures and examples of websites to help prove a point.

This matters to the world because he talks about the idea of design by generosity which is designing something to help others. An example could be a funny picture or a site to share information. This matters to me personally because I spend most of the time just looking at things but I never realized that I am entering an alternate world of thousands and even millions of people interacting and sharing information and cultures.

What I have taken away from this video is that people work harder and try faster if they have a reward. This matters to the world because people will work hard if they have a reward, the problem with this is that each reward is personal to each person if someone from India is being paid the same as someone in New York, The person in New York will not work as hard because it doesn't pay his or her bill, it may be more than enough for people in India so they will give anything for that job. There is something that can argue with this point. If people are payed more and more they won't work as hard because they feel as though the money can provide for them so they don't need anymore. They won't try and get a raise or a better job because everything is already comfortable. In schools it is grades rather than money. Students try and get the teacher to like them to get a good grade, does that happen in the workplace? If students are placed in a class where they have to put in no work but still get 100%, doesn't that seem the same as being put in a workplace where you can relax while receiving a decent salary? They don't earn it, the same as kids who can work the school system to get into a good college. For most people this works, doesn't that seem wrong, like nobody is earning anything?
His presentation style is like a lawyer. He is presenting his case or his beliefs and the jury or audience can believe it, understand it, and act upon it in their own way.
He uses a lot of inflection in his voice for when it gets serious he moves his hands and slows down a little to make sure that the audience understands and pays attention to his words.
This matters to the world because we need to keep our workers honest. People around the world would work hard and diligent and earn their money, people need to earn what they recieve

"Caroline Casey: Looking Past limits"


I have taken away from this video the idea that there really is nothing you can't do. She is legally blind and she makes sure that it didn't set limits on her. She had a breaking point where she needed to ask for help but after that she did anything she wanted. I have realized that there is nothing holding you back of what your dreams are. Her speaking techniques is with her hands very much. Her presentation style is through personal experience she shared her life story to help prove that you can do anything. This matters to me because it shows that sje went through so many difficulties through her life but she achieved her dreams, she gained her own personal freedom. This talk can help teach the world to not put labels on people, to let people live free and looking at the things they can do rather than what they cant.
